Description
La Crau is regarded as Chteauneuf-du-Papes greatest cru, and when produced at the hands of Vieux Tlgraphe, it really doesnt get much better. 1986 was a rather varying vintage. Wines were rather firm and tannic in their youth, though 30+ years of age has helped them mellow out. Wed whip up something delicious and pop this bottle now.
Producer note: Vieux Tlgraphe is regarded as one of the most important producers in the Southern Rhne. The estate has been headed by the Brunier family for over 100 years, who from the start, have been strong pioneers of Grenache. La Crau is considered to be Chateauneuf-du-Papes most esteemed grand cru and is located at the extreme southeast tip of the appellation. The vineyard is characterized by layered alluvial soils, most notably dotted with galet stones at the surface level. These special rocks help insulate vines from extreme weather conditions, as well as provide optimal drainage for the roots. This bottle is an absolute must for any reputable cellar.
